The Pratt Playground basketball courts are a locus of the community and the shared tradition of sport.

Playing with the richly uneven texture of a well-loved outdoor court, the designs cite traditional carpet-making craft with motifs drawn from antique references. By showcasing this unexpected cultural craft, the community courts begin to interweave cultural expectations of art, commercialization, and sport throughout history.

Created for the larger scale, the designs enrich visual interest both at a player’s eye level and when viewed from above – as from the top floors of the residence halls which bracket the small park.
